How to Add Category Images in WordPress

Do you think something is missing in WordPress category pages?

It lets you add a snippet title and text description to the category pages. But unlike common posts and pages, you can’t set a featured image there. That may be the reason why your category pages are less attractive than other parts of the site.

A suitable image or icon can represent a topic. It makes your category pages user-friendly and encourages readers to open the connected page.

Is it possible to upload images to archive pages?

Yes. Install Categories Images plugin first. It lets you assign images any taxonomy in a WordPress site, including custom taxonomies.

After activating the plugin, visit Posts > Categories. Now you can see that a default image is added to all site categories.

Open each of them using Edit or Quick Edit options.

Click on the Upload/Add image button to change the default icon. The WordPress media library will open from where you can choose an image or upload a fresh image. Don’t forget to click on Update, once finished.
