I enjoyed that interview. You’re doing a cracking job getting the big names to talk to you.
Churning out the same old stuff is a real problem in blogging. I mean, how many peopel really have anything new to say? Sometimes I just think why bother, there are so many people out there who can do this better than me – but then, as you demonstrate here, it’s often the personality behind the words as much as the words themselves that gets people engaged. I feel sure that Darren could spend a couple of weeks writing absolute tripe, and no one would worry too much because they’ve invested in HIM the person, and not necessarily his websites.
I suppose the trick is to let the engaging side of your personality shine through, and if you can back it up with great content.. all the better.

Wow what a video. As far as content I’m braver about being me and my own voice. I wasn’t comfortable disclosing as much in the first month or two. I think it comes from working as a psychologist in the past. It’s about the client not you.
Now it’s about me or the reader is bored.
I also need to get more posts in reserve! Company is coming next week and I better prepare.

Nice interview. I’m still not much into watching video on blogs, though I’ve started using pre-existing videos on occasion. You guys are doing it well. I think the reason that I like it is that you are doing it in a discussion format rather than just a talking head.
As a former — and, now, sometimes — classroom instructor, Eric, I noticed that you do seem to have one habit that is a little distracting and that’s the use of the phrase “you know.” It’s a little thing, but once I noticed it, I saw that it was occurring often. This is intended to be constructive criticism. Like an earlier discussion on the use of grammar in written material, limiting little things like this in video will result in a tad bit better presentation, though it will be harder in a discussion format. I guess the main reason I noticed it is that I get similar comments in classroom critiques from management, except the comments for me are excessive use of “uh.”

@Dave: Thanks, Dave! I know what you mean. It can be discouraging to say the least. Personality is key. Otherwise, the audience is forced to connect with the ideas alone.
@Tess: Thanks! The posts in reserve thing is definitely something I need to work on as well. I just feel like I never have the time. I’ll just have to make it happen, though, because I occasionally blank and need a backup.

It’s so true what Darren said at the end, that you should be satisfied with where you are now and be open for more success.
So many people are complaining about their current success level and this way they block themselves from achieving more.

This is another engaging and useful post. I like the idea of finding places where potential readers already gather. It’s making me wonder if my potential readers may be hanging out online outside of the blogopolis. Perhaps I need to extend beyond the world of blogging. Great interview. As a relatively new blogger, I have sort of “adopted” Darren as a mentor. This video is even further proof of why I, and many others, feel he has a lot to offer.
I use Twitter regularly and I’m gaining a larger following each day. Although I follow a lot of people, I only have a handful that come directly to my phone. It seems like Darren and a few others consistently provide tweets that add something to my knowledge base, everyday.
Just by watching expert bloggers like yourself and Darren, a new blogger can see the genesis of your success, great content that adds something of value to your readers.

I like that “…even if it’s viral for another person…”, when Darren was talking about making your post good enough from someone to pass on.
There’s still good angles on something that’s been reworked. I ran into a great post on delicious and before I read it I thought, “Do I need to read this?” since there are plenty of articles on delicious around the web. But, with delicious’ website updated and how people use delicious I was glad I read it.
Finding your voice comes with time and patience and you can look at it as your rss subscribers count example and the enough money example. Once you find your voice you might not know it, and if you do, you keep searching for it which hopefully along the way becomes unique for your readers.

Great interview! It was strange, that’s the first interview I’ve seen/heard from him, I usually just read so the accent was kind of weird – nice but weird.
It’s a good change of pace from reading the Problogger blog and the book to hear it literally “from the horses mouth” because it adds a reality to it. There are definitely points that hit home that I am NOT doing that I need to do or do differently.
BTW, I’m making some changes on my site that have sort of stemmed from reading your “stand out in a crowd” post. Right now they are just aesthetic, but then hopefully everything else will follow. You’ve stirred me up for sure.
