Blog reboot: Starting a blog.

Very, Very cool guys!
Nice Friday feature — and how surprised was I to get mentioned on the first on? Very! (and you even got my last name right, too, which is often not the case.)
It did give rise to one thought, though.
We — bloggers, that is — often talk about the value of including good content in our posts. However, I think, that taking the time to make thoughtful, constructive comments can add value to the posts of others and, at times, can be valuable content in its own right.
Mike Goad’s last blog post..Wednesday Weigh-In
Eric and Sean – Two Blogopolis citizens keeping it real, almost too real!
Great fun, guys, and thanks for the mention.
SpaceAgeSage — Lori’s last blog post..Do you fake it to make it?
This is a pretty damn brilliant idea. (Go, you!) It definitely encourages comments with actual content, and while I agree with the greatness of a jump cut, I also quite like laid-back tone and the jokes of the video.
Also, “blogopolis” is a great word that should spread. It’s one of those Internet words that doesn’t sound totally awkward when spoken aloud as well. Let me tell you, I nearly fell over when my pre-teen cousin used the word “stalkery” in conversation once. Not all netspeak works off line!
I think that the idea of posting links to others’ blogs will give you more honest feedback of your videos/posts. This will benefit both parties. I have never heard of this idea before, so if you are the only ones doing that, congratulations!
Your advice definitely gave me more clues as to what I was doing wrong and now my articles are getting increasingly more interesting and unique. Thank you for that.
Simona Rich’s last blog post..10 Personal Development Ideas
Eric & Sean, I loved this concept….right till the end and then I thought it was pretty rubbish and would never catch on. ‘Blogopolis’ is by far the better description of this place than ‘Blogoshpere’. That just sounds contrived like it’s been forced to fit
I just wish you hadn’t told me the coin toss thing was joke. I took a degree of satisfaction thinking that Eric was so unlucky! LOL.
Dave Fowler’s last blog post..It’s Odd But It’s True
Mike: In the best posts, the actual words are just the set up. The conversation actually takes place over spread out moments in the comments below. Thanks for taking part.
Lori: You’re quite welcome, and it was a little too real. : > )
MoJo: Brilliant! We like. Thanks! I agree, Blogopolis sounds much better out loud than does Blogosphere.
Simona: We’re the only ones doing it that I know of, which was one of the reasons we both loved the idea so much.
Dave: Keep your satisfaction. Eric is still that unlucky. : > ) By the way, your comeback on Teach My Children Well was awesome.
Everyone: Thanks! We’re having a lot of fun here so it’s great to know you’re enjoying us make fools of ourselves on camera.
@Simona: Hey, I see you just put up an avatar. That’s awesome!
@Dave: I’m just curious, do British cops eat doughnuts like American cops do? I’ve always wanted to know this.
Eric
Sean: I’m glad you liked it. I had fun making that post… Statler.
Eric: No, Brit cops don’t eat donuts like American cops. British cops just eat one.
Dave Fowler’s last blog post..A Mother’s Guilt
@Dave: Got it. Thanks for clearing that up. You guys always seemed slimmer than the ‘US variant’, so I was just testing my ‘fewer doughnuts theory’. Sounds like my test results have come out positive. (As you can see, cop humor just isn’t my forte.
) Eric
Eric: Your cop humour looks fine to me. Well, you made me laugh so it must be good enough. And I didn’t pick it up the first time but I like your spelling of ‘Doughnuts’ it made me happy.
As you mentioned the Brit cops donlt have guns so they have to do much more running to stop their suspects.
Dave
Dave Fowler’s last blog post..It’s Odd But It’s True
@Dave:
Congratulations to both of you on your new adventure. I found Blogopolis Blueprint today as I was drafting a new “collaborate with me” page on my blog. I went back to your collaboration guest post on Problogger only to find your collaboration has skyrocketed. I’m looking forward to following this blog and to mapping out my own partnerships within this connected and powerful blogopolis.
Stacey / Create a Balance’s last blog post..To Enjoy Life
Eric: Yeah, I’ve accidentally found out how to do that!
I think it’s much better to speak to someone online when you know how that person looks like:)It brings credibility, honesty and personality.
Simona Rich’s last blog post..10 Personal Development Ideas
@Stacey: That’s awesome that you found us from our ProBlogger posts! I’m excited to hear about your own partnerships in the blogging world. I hope this blog can help in those areas as well as make you laugh on occasion.
@Simona: I TOTALLY agree! Seeing is believing. It just helps you feel like you’re actually talking to a person. Eric
Very cool guys. Giving back already surprises no one! You guys rock! I am making my way through the sites now. I love new sites to read. Thank you.
Jay’s last blog post..10 Bloggers I Aspire to Become When I Grow Up
@Jay: Thanks a bunch, Jay! You’re proving to be a genuinely nice guy with smarts to back it up. This will take you places, as you probably already know. And yes, new blogs are always fun. Enjoy! Eric
You guys make a great duo. You really compliment each other.
Bamboo Forest – PunIntended’s last blog post..What’s the Deal with Chain Letters?
In my opinion that was the best video yet. My two favourite parts:
1. Eric said my name and read my comment – I totally showed my mum!
2. I think authenticity was the word you used – the authenticity is definitely the most compelling thing about these videos. It’s as if I am there having an actual conversation with you guys (from my point of view anyway).
P.S. The coolest things English police offers do it ride bicycles and horses!
*officers
You guys should get the edit comment thing on here!
LMAO @ Danny.
I always fancied having a go on roller blades, but I haven’t got the legs for the shorts. Mind you, Waldorf and Statler up there donlt even bother with shorts!!
Dave Fowler’s last blog post..Not Today Thank You
@Bamboo Forest: Thanks, man! We’re definitely enjoying ourselves.
@Danny: That’s funny that you say that because that’s what I told Sean when we first started shooting these. Basically, by having two people in the video and having them be in different locations if makes the reader/watcher feel like they’re part of a group, not being TALKED TO.
And don’t worry about the typo. Just like our videos, perfect isn’t always possible or even desirable, necessarily. I knew what you meant.
@Dave: Thanks Dave! I really wanted the visual of you on roller blades and shorts. No offense, but that just does NOTHING for me.
Eric
Haha, brilliant. The jump cut isn’t meant to be used to perfect your videos. And Tarantino would kill you for using the jump cut.
Matthew Dryden’s last blog post..Snorting Oatmeal, Floggings Noodles, and Bunnies
Pants? Is that pants as in American pants, cause here in England you’re telling me you’re sat there with no underwear which is how I am going to imagine both you guys every time I visit, which of course will be lots if there are no pants going on. Oh and for the great content too, obviously!
Really great and fun round up. But oh sheesh you Americans cannot pronounce my name! It’s Ta (as in thank you very much or TARmac in the road or rhymes with far, car, bar) ra.
Just sayin’
Tara’s last blog post..A rant
Dave: Admit it, you cry when you watch our awesome cop movies; cops running down corridors with a .45 in one hand and a .9 mm Beretta in the other – both of them sideways. The coolest cop movie you all had in years was Lock Stock and Two Smoking Barrels, where the leads had to spend two hours looking for two guns that were antiques (not to mention the director is also the housewife of Madonna – an American). Oh, and our version of the Office is also better.
Jay/ Bamboo/ Stacey: Thanks everyone. It’s our pleasure and a lot of fun!
Danny: I love that plugin… but have yet to implement it on WD. You’re right, it would be a good addition. That’s awesome that you showed your mum.
Matthew: I don’t know if he’d kill us, but he’d definitely want to cut off our ears.
Tara: Totally naked from the waste down. Wobbly bits and all. Thanks for schooling me on your name. Our cops are cooler, but our language isn’t near as crisp.
**Cough splutter cough**
Your version of The Office better? That’s just about the funniest thing I’ve heard. Sure the American one was funny, but us Brits like our humour subtile and sharp just like the brilliant ORIGINAL.
Sheesh, knocking the British copper and The Office in one fell swoop, how could you Sean!
Tara’s last blog post..A rant
Heya guys! Glad to say that I’m enjoying the vids here. They are authentic and down to earth. Looking forward to more posts here Sean and Eric!
Daniel Richard’s last blog post..Have A Fantastic 2009 Ahead Of Us!
Great job Eric and Sean! I was on travel and have been playing catch up all day
I try to be as “perfect” as I can with my blog posts and even those come out with mistakes *all the time.* I’m impressed that you guys get as few mistakes as you do from just one take! I can’t even imagine how many would be there if I never deleted the typos etc from my first draft.
Regarding the comment about the videos you guys are doing, I absolutely agree with what you mentioned about it being different and building a community. Interacting with you (Eric) over email, both of you and your commununity here in the comments, reading both your blogs and watching the BBP videos also adds a whole new dimension to the conversation. It’ll be fun meeting up in person with you and Sean at blog world expo later this year too!
Sid Savara’s last blog post..Playing To Your Audience – A Lesson From An Enterprising English Busker
@Tara: We all know they got the Office right the SECOND go ’round.
@Daniel: Thanks, man! We have a lot of fun making them so it’s just icing on the cake that people enjoy watching them.
@Sid: Thanks! And there’s no doubt that it’s ALL ABOUT COMMUNITY! Without it were all just a bunch of ghost towns.
And I’m SO looking forward to Vegas! We’ll be clinking glasses before you know it!
Eric
