I really need to carry a notebook with me, instead of my 80 pound Franklin Planner. I'll have a sudden insight and then neglect to write it down because I didn't want to carry my monstrosity of a planner with me.

I do, however, have an Excel spreadsheet on which I have about 20 (at any given time) future blog topics. Doesn't help me though when I'm not near the computer. A notebook sounds like a capital idea.

Too often I'll hear a conversation at Walmart or the library that makes me laugh and would make an excellent post, always assuming that I'll remember it verbatim by the time I get home. Three days later I'll say, "Now what was it that was so funny?"

Randi’s last blog post..Conquering Shyness

Bamboo: Well said, ideas definitely have their own schedule and we could never hope to manipulate it. What we can do is hold the bottle beneath the lightning. Record indeed.

Janice: YAY!

Nora: My pleasure. I just started using this app called "Things," and it's pretty much my favorite thing ever. It's like having a notebook and filing system right on the desktop, though it does nothing for me if I'm away from the computer. Still, it's pen and paper that are best.

Mike: You know what works for me in that type of situation? A small voice recorder. I used one for about a month everywhere I went and knocked out a little chapter book. I only stopped using it because the batteries died, although that was four months ago. I really need to get back to the dollar store.

Marc: I do love the immediacy, but it makes it almost impossible to grow. I've cleaned out my drafts. I only want a draft inside the dash if it's pretty close to publish.

Dan: Thanks, Dan. Lack of motivation is a tuff one. It's best to tackle it bit by tiny bit.

Sean’s last blog post..Skipping Rope

I agree with you Sean. As a writer I'm finding ideas everywhere, though I haven't come up with 20 - 30 whilst on the toilet!

I've got a lot of drafts in my Wordpress bank but I still find my best writing comes when I realise I've only got an hour or so before a post needs to go up on my blog.

It's got more drawbacks than benefits though so I'm going to have to step up my game.

Are you writing 10 posts each day per blog or 10 posts per day to cover all your blogs?

I've tried the notebook thing in the past. It usually lasted just a few days. Then I set it down some where and forget about it.

I do a lot of thinking at the gym. The problem that I see with a notebook there is that I really hit it pretty hard when I'm at the gym and any notes I write would probably run because of how heavily I'm sweating. However, I may just give it a go anyhow.

Hey Sean,

Great post! Lately I've been posting a lot more on my blog and I try to write something every night about this time between 10pm to 2am when I have quiet time. My boyfriend Chip bought me a Coolpix camera for Christmas and I carry it everywhere I go. If I see something interesting I will usually take a pic of it even if its just something that will remind me of what to write about when I get home. I also have a mini notebook in my purse I carry and a pen and I will also write it down if there is a little more info I want to put into the future post that I might forget. Most of the time I just use the pics as a reminder of what I want to write and more than likely they don't make it into the posts if they are crappy looking because I took it too fast. Another thing I do is I have a sticky pad on my desk where I write the titles and/or description of what I want to write about for future posts. Most of the time I only manage to write about one or two a night to just get me by if I miss posting a day or so. If I'm on a roll and I have plenty of time then I usually will write a little more. Thanks for the video, it was very helpful.

I carry a notebook wherever I go, no matter what.

Ideas do not come to us on our time. They come on their time - and this is why it is essential to always have a method of recording them.

If I didn't record ideas when they sailed into my mind, I would have tremendous trouble blogging.

Our blogs are our houses. Do we want to make them average? No, we want them to be the best designed and most beautiful in all the land. But if we are constantly forced to fish for ideas when it's time to write a post - those ideas will probably never shine like the ones that come to us as a flash of inspiration.

RECORD MY FRIENDS!

Janice: Ideas are EVERYWHERE. All you have to do is pay attention. With about ten posts per day, I'm constantly writing. I don't need to be at the keyboard or even have a pen do by doing it. The wheels in my mind simply need to be turning.

Eric, any ideas on Janice's commentluv?

Eric: Oh yeah, on the conservative side. I know what you mean about the instant gratification, and I'm with you to a point. I used to write WD posts each night before bed. It was my final act of the day. I loved the ritual and the immediacy, but I can't do it any longer. It doesn't fit into my life. No one sitting on their satisfaction is winging it on a daily basis. The joy for me now comes in the writing. Now I need to move in a different direction to start getting satisfaction from the promotion of my posts as well.

Hayden: Oh, don't feel guilty. To each his own, really.
